President inaugurates Sri Lanka’s largest fisheries harbor in Point Pedro
The construction of Sri Lanka’s largest fisheries harbour in Point Pedro was launched by President Maithripala Sirisena today (30), the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.
The proposal to establish a harbour in Point Pedro is a part of the Northern Province Sustainable Fisheries Development Project which has the objective of providing livelihood opportunities in the Northern Peninsula.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs.12, 600 million and the harbour will accommodate up to 300 large multi-day trawlers.
The harbour will also consist of security facilities, net mending halls, weighbridge controlling facilities as well as shops and community halls.
