President names Rajapaksa as new Sri Lanka finance minister
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirsena Monday named Mahinda Rajapaksa, whom he appointed prime minister in a contested move last week, as the island’s new minister of finance and economic affairs as he moved to consolidate the grip on state machinery.
Sirisena’s office announced new ministerial appointments in several Twitter messages.
Mahinda Samarasinghe retained his position as Minister of Ports and Shipping along with Nimal Siripala de Silva as Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation.
Sarath Amunugama was named Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Arumugam Thondaman was named Minister of Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development while Douglas Devananda was appointed Minister of Resettlement, Rehabilitation, Northern Development, & Hindu Religious Affairs.
Faiszer Musthapha was named Minister of Provincial Councils, Local Government, and Sports, Wijith Wijayamuni Zoysa Minister of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development and Rural Economic Affairs and Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe Minister of Education and Higher Education.
Ranjith Siyambalapitiya is the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy and Mahinda Amaraweera Minister of Agriculture.
