President’s office refutes JVP claim of huge allocation

The Presidential Secretariat is refuting the allegations made by JVP MP Vijitha Herath on Friday (25 Oct) that Rs 800 million has been allocated for the future activities of President Sirisena.

In a statement, the Presidential Secretariat said that the “allegations are completely false and baseless.”

It also states that the recent media reports quoted Vijitha Herath saying that the another Rs 2.4 billion was allocated to the president through an interim account in parliament.

The secretariat emphasizes that no money will be allocated to a president that currently holding the office and the money will only be allocated to the office of the president.

Further, it states a large sum of money from the current President’s expenditure head was allocated to the Presidential Task Force and other development programs that are currently underway.

“Accordingly, such malicious accusations are strongly denied as no money has been allocated for the personal use of the president,” the statement added.
