Protestors supporting Athureliye Rathana Thero are flooding Kandy town as the Hill Capital remains shut down.
Shops in the nearby towns of Katugastota and Peradeniya were also shut down and large crowds marched into Kandy headed towards the Dalada Maligawa.
The authorities shut down the Maha Maluwa and the crowd appeared contained outside the Queen’s Hotel.
Rathana Thero, an independent Member of Parliament began a fast unto death on Friday.
The Monk is targetting Governors Asath Salley and M L M Hisbulla and Minister Rishad Bathiudeen.
They are demanding that President Mithripala Sirisena remove them from office immediately.
The General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena Galagodaththe Gnanasara Thero is also leading a group of protestors in Kandy.
Speaking to Media in Kandy the fiery Sinhala-Right wing Monk said he warned the country that if action was not taken against three Muslim politicians he would bring the people on to the streets.
A protest march is also taking in place in Moratuwa currently, reportedly in support of Rathana Thero’s hunger strike.
