PUCSL to let CEB purchase 100MW of power

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has approved a decision by the Ceylon Electricity Board ( CEB) to
purchase 1000 MW from the private sector.

According to PUCSL Corporate Communications Director Jayanath Herath, permission was granted to the CEB for the purchase last Saturday (30 March), following a tender submitted by the latter in February this year as a temporary solution to the ongoing power crisis.

Herath told RepublicNext that the PUCLS decided to approve the CEB’s decision taking into account the inconvenience faced by the public in the wake of the daily power cuts.

The purchased100MW of electricity will be added to the national grid via six sub-grid stations starting from 20 April, he said.

The spokesman also said the PUCSL has been receiving complaints from the public of irregular interruptions to the power supply not in line with the schedule published by the CEB.
