ECONOMYNEXT – There are no plans for emergency evacuation of 150,000 Sri Lankans in Qatar, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Colombo said.
“The Qatari Government has taken all necessary measures to guarantee the normal course of life in case any development arises,” it said in a statement.
“The maritime ports and the airfield remain open for imports, transit and flights to and from rest of the world.”
The embassy said it advises Sri Lankans not to be misled by reports on emergency evacuation plans for 150,000 Sri Lankans in Qatar.
There is no need for such measures as the diplomatic rift left no adverse impacts on the normal life of citizens and expatriates as well, it said.
“Qatari authorities have repeatedly assured that the diplomatic rift has not affected the normal course of life of the citizens of the State of Qatar and oher residents.”
