Railway complaints already resolved last year – Mangala
Accusing railway trade unions of being duped by the Joint Opposition, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said today that the problems faced by railway workers were already resolved last year.
Addressing the media at the Finance Ministry this evening (03), Samaraweera claimed that the Sri Lanka Pdujana Peramuna (SLPP) is using the railway workers as a political weapon.
“We have already provided all possible welfare to the railway workers. It was because of the railway workers that we appointed a presidential commission. Their problems are already addressed. Last year when they were carrying out a strike, the President appointed the commission to address their salary anomalies. This strike is baseless,” he said.
Samaraweera further said that it is evident that the SLPP is linked to the ongoing trade union action.
“I can show you how they are connected to the SLPP. In any case, they will see an end to their problems from 1 January. Cabinet approval has already been given for that,” he added.
