Railway strike to continue
Railway trade unions have decided to extend the ongoing strike as their demands have allegedly yet to be met.
The decision was taken at a special discussion held in Colombo today (04).
Speaking to RepublicNext, Locomotive Engine Operators’ Union (LEOU) Secretary Indika Dodangoda said: “At today’s discussion, we agreed to continue the strike action. State Minister Ashok Abeysinghe has not held talks with us yet. We were going to have discussions with the Salaries Commission, but that too got cancelled.”
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (03) issued a Gazette notification declaring railways an essential service.
