ECONOMYNEXT – With the prevailing heavy rains, the counting of votes in Galle, Kalutara, Gampaha, and Nuwara Eliya districts have been delayed, Chairman of the National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya said.
“We have faced some issues in counting the polls in Galle, Kalutara, Gampaha, and Nuwara Eliya districts and some other places due to rainfalls however other places started counting around 8.00 a.m. today,” Deshapriya, speaking at an Interview with Derana TV, said.
Jaffna, Nallur, Hambantota and Mannar districts have already started counting postal votes.
“Most of the time we will be able to give results of Matara, Mannar or Jaffna. We thought Galle results will be the first one to issue but the officers got delayed due to the rain. Otherwise, we thought we could give Galle results at around 12.30 p.m. but it will get delayed.
“We will be able to issue the first result between 2:30 and 3.30 p.m. It can be a postal vote or a District result.”
