Range blames Sirisena for UNP’s troubles
United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara says President Maithripala Sirisena is directly involved in creating conflicts in his party.
Talking to reporters at Temple Trees this morning (21), Bandara said the present division in the UNP is a result of a conspiracy carried out by the President.
“There wasn’t a division in UNP before. In 2015, we worked together for a government. Ranil Wickremesinghe, Karu Jayasooriya or Mahinda Rajapaksa will not have a problem even if they win or not. It’s the same with TNA and other parties but Sirisena has the problem of how to survive after his tenure which now does not even have the lifespan of a Broiler chicken,” Range Bandara said.
“He knows he will have no way if Ranil Wickremesinghe becomes the President or the Prime Minister because of the things he did in the past. His conscience also knows that Mahinda will not protect him,” the MP added.
He alleged that Sirisena therefore now wants to give the presidency or the prime ministerial post to some with whom he can survive.
Meanwhile, addressing the journalists, MP Prof. Ashu Marasinghe said he heard from different parties that the President is trying to appoint a Prime Minster in an unlawful way again as he last October.
“According to what we heard there are secret discussions to carry out a conspiracy again. If someone in this country tries to conspire with Sirisena and gain power that will be the end of his political career. If that person is a member of UNP, what we have to say is that UNP voters will definitely reject that person,”
Marasinghe further said that some Sri Lanka Freedom Front (SLFP) MPs also informed him about the discussions.
The MP, however, did not disclose the identity of the MPs from whom he received information about the discussion.
