Ranil hails Lanka for retaining Best Destination status
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is hailing Sri Lanka for retaining its title as the “best destination for tourists to visit and the best destination in the world following the Easter Sunday attacks.”
In October 2018, the famed travel guide publisher “Lonely Planet” named Sri Lanka the top travel destination for 2019.
Subsequent to the attacks on Easter Sunday, tourism began to decline and travel advisories were issued by countries on Sri Lanka.
In a statement, the Premier spoke of the plunge in tourism and also mentioned the article by the Lonely Planet, “Why I won’t give up on Sri Lanka and you shouldn’t either”, citing that citizens should feel proud of the endorsement by the famed publisher.
Wickremesinghe went on to note that steps are being taken to assist the tourism industry and further measures will be made public in the near future.
