Ranil thanks Maha Sangha for keeping the peace
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is expressing his gratitude to the Maha Sangha for helping maintain peace in the country after the Easter Sunday attacks.
He was speaking to reporters in Kandy after meeting the Mahanayake Theros of the Malwatte, Asgiriya and Ramanna Chapters.
The Prime Minister said that soon after the bombs were exploded he contacted the Mahanayake theors and sought their assistance.
“The Ven Mahanayake Theros responded immediately and as a result there was peace in our villages,” Wickremesinghe said.
He added that he has informed the Mahanayake Theros about the steps that are being taken to restore normalcy and sought their advice.
He added that he had also discussed the steps the Muslim Affairs Ministry is taking to ensure that radicalization is prevented.
Wickremesinghe also appraised the prelates about the on-going discussions between the Muslim and Christian communities.
