Rapid developmental efforts in Vanni – PM
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that the government is looking to make the Vanni district in the Northern Province one of the most developed parts of the island before 2024.
The Premier expressed these views at an event to declare open the new accident ward and emergency unit of the Vavuniya district hospital built at a cost of 150 Million rupees.
Minister of Health Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Minister of Industry & Commerce Rishard Bathiudeen and the Deputy Ambassador of Netherlands Eva van Woersem were among the gathering.
Premier Wickremesinghe also noted that construction of the Malwathu Oya Reservoir which will benefit the Rajarata and the Vanni areas is set to commence next week.
Furthermore, expressing his views at the event, Dr.Senaratne stated that it was under this government that the Free Health Service was properly defined and implemented.
The Health Minister also noted that the government has allocated monies for cancer and heart patients to receive treatments free of limits.
Tamil National Alliance MP S. Sivamohan, Director of the Vavuniya District Hospital Dr. Nanda Kumaran, former Northern Province Health Minister Dr. Sathyalingam, Secretary to the Ministry of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs V. Sivagnanasothy, Secretary to the Prime Minister Saman Ekanayake and other state officials and politicians were also present at the event.
