Ready to go to court again – Prof. Thenuwara
Civil society activist Professor Chandraguptha Thenuwara is willing to go to courts again to challenge the dual citizenship status of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Speaking at an event at the New Town Hall in Colombo yesterday Thenuwara said that every citizen has the right to question.
“At present We have the right to question. It was our victory in the year 2015. Now we know that Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s dual citizenship certificate is a valid one but till that valid certificate is cancelled, he is a person holding dual citizenship. Therefore, our next question is whether he renounced his dual citizenship before giving nominations. So there is a possibility of us going to the Courts again. We bow to the Court’s decision,” Thenuwara said.
Thenuwara and fellow activist Gamini Viyangoda earlier file a petition challenging Gotabaya’s citizenship position which was dismissed by the Court of Appeal.
After this case, Thenuwara has been receiving death threats allegedly from Gotabaya’s supporters.
