Refrain from using children for election propaganda, Election Commission requests media
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Election Commission has requested the media to refrain from printing or broadcasting election propaganda commercials that feature minors.
Writing to heads of print and electronic media institutions, Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake said yesterday that a number of election monitoring bodies have notified the Election Commission of propaganda videos, posters and banners that feature children.
“Using children for election campaigning negatively impacts the personality development of children as well as their mental well being and sense of identity. It could also affect their future. Therefore, we urge you to refrain from publicising such campaign material,” wrote Ratnayake. (Colombo/Jul16/2020-sb)
