Russian FM Lavrov here next week
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov will be in Sri Lanka on an official two-day visit on the 13th and the 14th of January 2020, the government announced today.
The Department of Government Information said today that, Lavrov is scheduled to have a meeting with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and a bilateral meeting with the Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Relations Dinesh Gunawardene on the 14th of January 2020.
On the following day, Lavrov will be attending a joint press conference which will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Relations (main conference hall).
The Soviet Union established diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka in December 1956. The relationship between the two nations has been strong and supportive since then. One of the most notable forms of assistance was when Russia provided training on battlefield tactics to the Sri Lankan Army during the civil war.
