Ruwan Wijewardene takes over Sri Lankaâ€™s media ministry
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena Friday appointed State Minister of Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene, as the non-Cabinet Minister for Media, the information office announced.
Mangala Samaraweera, who held the posts of Minister for Finance and Mass Media, was sworn in as Finance Minister, a statement said.
Ruwan Wijewardene was recently appointed as the new Deputy General Secretary of the United National Party, the main party in the ruling coalition.
Wijewardene’s father Ranjith Wijewardene heads the family’s newspaper business, Wijeya Newspapers Pvt. Ltd., which publishes English and Sinhala language newspapers, including the Sunday Times, Daily Mirror, Daily FT, and Lankadeepa.
