Sajith blames strikes on Mahinda
Presidential hopeful Sajith Premadasa implied today that Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa may be behind ongoing trade union strike and protest campaigns that have brought parts of the public service to a standstill.
He made this remark in response to a question about his visit to Colombo Fort yesterday where a group of disabled war veterans have been protesting pension and salary anomalies for three weeks straight.
When a journalist asked why the protesting ex-soldiers had seemingly received Rajapaksa more warmly than they had Premadasa, the UNP deputy leader said: “You obviously know the answer. You know who the father of this string of strikes is.”
Asked again if he actually believes the Former President is behind the trade union action, Premadasa said: “Anyone with a half brain can see that. There’s no need to keep asking about it.”
