Sathosa spice packets have Pohottuwa symbol

ECONOMYNEXT – The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) has complained to the National Elections Commission about packets of spices being distributed by Sathosa which bears the election symbol of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, a spokesman for the election watchdog said.

CMEV Convener Manjula Gajanayake told EconomyNext that the packets of chili powder and curry powder were being given out as part of the relief measures for those people in isolation due to the curfew.

“Since we complained the distribution of these packets has stopped,” Gajanayake said. They were also taken off the shelves of the CWE stores, he claimed.

Social Media entrepreneur Prasad Welikumbura tweeted a picture of the Sathosa spices asking the question whether the Pohottuwa was the “new logo of Sathosa.”

Opposition activists also said that the Samurdhi payments to daily-wage earners affected by the COVID 19 lockdowns were also being channelled to SLPP supporters by the government. (Colombo, 6 April 2020)
