Second Sri Lankan gets COVID19
ECONOMYNEXT – A second Sri Lankan has contracted the coronavirus and has been admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital today, the government announced.
A Media release issued by the Director-General Information Nalaka Kaluwewa said that the 44-year old had been staying with Patient No 1.
It did not indicate any more details of the second patient and did not say where the two stayed together.
Kaluwewa quoted Director-General Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe as saying that tests have confirmed that he has contracted COVID19.
The government closed schools and advised people not to go on holiday trips in large numbers to avoid the further spread of the disease.
All passengers arriving from Italy, Iran and South Korea are being quarantined in military-run centres in the Eastern Province. (Colombo March 12, 2020)
