Shantha Kottegoda appointed new Defence Secretary
Former Army Commander Shantha Kottegoda has been appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.
Kottegoda’s appointment comes in the wake of the resignation of Former Secretary Hemasiri Fernando last week. President Maithripala Sirisena had requested Fernando to resign, in the face of mounting criticism that the Government had failed to prevent the Easter tragedy despite having received intelligence prior to the attack.
Kottegoda served as Army Commander between 2004 and 2005, prior to the appointment of now Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka as Commander.
