Sharp edges of three-wheeler taxis on Sri Lanka’s roads
ECONOMYNEXT – An EconomyNext photographer captured these images Sept 21, 2015 of three-wheel taxis highlighting the exposed nuts and sharp edges that could cause serious harm to both pedestrians and passengers in the event of a collision.
Although vehicles imported into Sri Lanka are expected to maintain minimum safety standards, no such standard applies in the case of these three wheelers which are the leading cause of accidents in the country.
Over to the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic to comment on the minimum safety standards of these three-wheelers he has allowed on Sri Lankan roads. Industry officials note that Chinese-made golf carts have more safety features than these three-wheelers.
