Sirisena releases Gnanasara Thero from Prison
The Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagodaththe Gnanasara Thero is free after being released by President Maithripala Sirisena using his powers to pardon prisoners.
The fiery demagogue was released through the rear entrance of the Welikada Jail this afternoon after the President’s order reached the Prison’s Department.
Crowds had gathered at the main entrance to welcome the controversial hard-line Monk.

Meanwhile, RepublicNext learns that several groups are planning a challenge to the Presidential pardon.
Two prominent political figures who are close supporters of Sirisena had called for the pardoning of the Monk who has been accused of whipping up racial hatred.
They are former Minister Wiejayadasa Rajapaksha and Eastern Province Governor M L A M Hisbullah.
