Sixth Sri Lanka parliamentarian tests positive for COVID-19
ECONOMYNEXT – Kandy district Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Wasantha Yapa Bandara was found to be positive for COVID-19 last night, making him Sri Lanka’s sixth member of parliament to test positive for the virus.
The MP posted on his official Facebook page yesterday that the district medical officer had informed him around 10pm that he had tested positive.
Bandara has requested everyone that came into contact with him over the last few days to get themselves tested for the virus.
Bandara joins State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera, MP Rauff Hakeem, State Minister Piyal Nishantha, Minister Vasudewa Nanayakkara, and Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi who have all tested positive for COVID-19 so far among members of parliament.
State Minister Jayasekera and Minister Nanayakkara have returned home upon recovery, according to government reports. (Colombo/Jan25/2021)
