SJB claims it is now the country’s main Opposition Party
ECONOMYNEXT – The Samagi Jana Balavegaya, (SJB) the breakaway party from the United National Party is now claiming that it has established itself as the country’s main Opposition.
In results declared so far, the governing Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has won 13 seats to three seats to the SJB.
National List candidate and former State Minister Eran Wickremeratne told EconomyNext that in the short span of a few months the SJB has formed a group that has become a team.
“This is only the beginning,” he said.
His colleague Imtiaz Bakeer Markar said that they are committed to Social Justice and will stand up for the rights of the people.’
“The pro-government media and the government tried to show that election was a battle between the SLPP and the UNP,” he said
“But the people have shown that it is not so,” he added. (Colombo, August 6, 2020)
