SJB to launch a protest campaign against the government
ECONOMYNEXT – The main opposition Samagi Jana Balavegaya held its first-anniversary rally in Colombo yesterday pledging to launch countrywide protests against the government.
Party leader Sajith Premadasa said that the SJB will begin protests against the LKR15bn Sugar scam and the massive deforestation caused by the new government.
“Come and join us as we plan 200 protest campaigns,” Premadasa the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament said.
Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said that both President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his brother Basil Rajapaksa’s children are living in the United States.
“When they are finished here they will go there to live,” Ranawaka said.
The rally at Hyde Park in Colombo drew a large crowd despite Covid 19 restrictions.
The new party, which is made up of former United National Party members, was formed shortly before last year’s Parliamentary General Elections. (Colombo March 16, 2021)
