SL CERT|CC issues threat warnings for ‘Free Internet Data Scams’
ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka CERT|CC for cyber security issues has issued high threat warnings for ‘Free Internet Data Scams’ and asks the public to be cautious when responding to these scam messages.
SL CERT|CC says that these messages can be sent via SMS, WhatsApp and Viber claiming to offer free data for the customer.
“There are messages that claim to offer free data and these offers will pretend to come from well-known organizations or brands to gain the users trust” SL CERT|CC said.
“These messages are part of a click fraud which is a monetization scheme that relies on racking up bogus ad clicks that brings revenue to the scam operators”
SL CERT said websites behind these scams might change into phishing sites at any time and users could lose sensitive data and online accounts.
“Check on the organizations website to make sure any promotion is real and valid before registering yourself for it” SL CERT|CC said. (Colombo/April 23/2020)
