Sri Lanka 2014 merchandise exports up 6.7-pct to US$11bn
EconomyNext – Sri Lankan merchandise exports rose 6.7 percent to 11.08 billion US dollars in 2014 from the year before, according to provisional figures from the Export development Board, a statement said.
Exports of industrial products increase 6.1 percent to 8 billion US dollars with shipments of apparel, the top industrial export, rising 9.26 percent to 4.9 billion dollars, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce said.
Shipments of agriculture products at went up nine percent to 2.7 billion dollars from the year before with earnings from tea, the main product in the category, rising 5.4 percent to 1.6 billion dollars.
The statement said the figures were only for exports of goods and do not include that of service exports.
It said coconut exports went up by 49 percent to 538 million dollars in 2014 from the year before while fisheries shipments increased by 8.5 percent to 265 million dollars.
