Sri Lanka 2015 budget deficit could reach 6.9-pct of GDP: Finance Minister

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s budget deficit for 2015 may expand to 6.8 to 6.9 percent of gross domestic product, up from a planned 4.4 percent, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said.

Sri Lanka has raised more revenue in 2015, but there were unexpected spending from committed agreements, he told a Sri Lanka Malaysia Business Forum in Colombo.

Sri Lanka presented an ambitious revised budget in January 2015, with 499 billion rupees, and by July, the deficit had already reached 532 billion rupees.
