Sri Lanka ‘green buildings’ rules to reduce energy, water use
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has decided to adopt ‘green building’ guidelines from this year in the construction of buildings for public and semi-government institutions that will reduce energy and water use, a government spokesman said.
Health minister Rajitha Senaratne said the cabinet of minister has approved a proposal to introduce guidelines for construction and maintenance of buildings in public and semi-government institutions as environmentally friendly ‘green buildings’.
The government aims to ensure a healthy environment in buildings and minimise use of utilities like energy and water, he told a news conference.
This will help improve the environment by minimising emissions of green house gases, he said.
