Sri Lanka aims to reduce drugs prices with new policy

EconomyNext – Sri Lanka’s new health minster said drugs prices will be reduced with the introduction of a long-awaited national drugs policy.

"The main beneficiary of the new policy will be the public," declared Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine. Rajitha Senaratne.

"Drugs prices will come down."

A Bill to implement the National Drugs Policy will be put before the Cabinet of Ministers next week, he told a news conference.

The new policy law will be presented to parliament on February 6, he said, adding that he expects parliamentary approval by March 20.

Implementing the new drugs policy is one of the pledges of the new government of President Maithripala Sirisena, elected on January 6, in his 100-day program of urgent reforms.
