ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka Air Force Engineering Corp has produced a high flow oxygen therapy unit to be used on Coronavirus patients with breathing difficulties with ventilators in short supply, the President’s office said.
Ranil De Silva, Thilanka Ratnapala and a team of medical experts advised by Bandula Wijay, a professor at Kotelawala Defence University who has international experience at medical device companies had put together the unit.
A Heated Humidified Oxygen Therapy Unit, which can deliver high flow oxygen to patients without intubation was presented to President Gotabya Rajapaksa.
The unit had been presented to the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) of Sri Lanka for approval and the University of Moratuwa to check compliance with electrical standards.
The high flow machine could be produced at for 300,000 rupees each, the statement said.
The Air Force was planning to produce 50 machines and was ready to make more, the statement said. (Colombo/May13/2021)
