Sri Lanka and Vietnam together on solving South China Sea dispute
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka and Vietnam stood for solving the issues over the South China Sea under international rules and maintaining freedom of navigation in the Indian Ocean, a statement from Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s office said.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe met his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc for talks in Hanoi during an official visit.
Both countries stood for solving disputed claims over the South China Sea (East Sea) under international rules, the statement said.
Since both countries depended on international trade, the countries should stand for the freedom of navigation in the sea, the statement said.
Sri Lanka also stressed the importance of freedom of navigation on the Indian Ocean as Prime Minister Wickremesinghe visited Japan and had a meeting with Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe.
