Sri Lanka announces acting ministers
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena had appointed acting ministers to take over portfolios vacated after six cabinet ministers resigned from the ruling coalition, ahead of a re-shuffle of the cabinet next week.
Sarath Amunugama was given the portfolios of skills development, science, technology and research, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya was given disaster management and Faizer Musapha sports.
Malik Samarawickreme, a United National Party minister was given the portfolio of social empowerment, and labour.
Several Sri Lanka Freedom Party ministers resigned after voting against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on a no-trust vote brought by a faction loyal to ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa. (Colombo/Mar12/2018)
