Sri Lanka Army twins attempt Guinness World Record
ECONOMYNEXT – Two senior Sri Lankan military men have applied for the Guiness Book of World Records, the Sri Lanka Army said.
Twin brothers Majors General Pooraka and Jayantha Seneviratne, the only twins in the Sri Lanka Army, applied to be considered for a world record, the Army said in a statement, having enlisted together, been commissioned on the same day, followed foreign courses in Quetta, Pakistan together, and received simultaneous promotions. The two brothers are also set to end their respective military career on the same day.
A ceremony in this regard was held in Colombo yesterday, attended by Army Commander Lt Gen Shavendra Silva and Sri Lanka’s authorised representative for the Guinness Book of World Records, Saman Amarasinghe, Chairman, National Steering Council, Guinness World Records at the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Major General Pooraka Seneviratne is the Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Chief of Staff, Office of the Chief of Defence Staff while Major General Jayantha Seneviratne is the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Commander, Security Forces – West and Colonel of the Regiment Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.
The official documents were signed and approved by the Assistant Registrar General, the official representative of the Registrar General’s Office Lakshika Ganepola and the Army Commander before being officially handed over to Amarasinghe, the Army said. (Colombo/Jul31/2020).
