Sri Lanka bans import of Indian noodles
COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – Sri Lanka has banned the import of noodles from India, in the wake of higher than normal levels of lead being discovered in ‘Maggie’ branded noodles in the country, Trade Minister Rishard Bathiudeen said.
"We have issued instructions to the Customs authorities not to allow noodles from India to enter the country," Bathiudeen said.
He said the Consumer Affairs Authority which comes under his ministry had collected samples of noodles and sent it to be tested.
The tests are expected in about a week, he said.
