ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka’s bond market was quiet at open ahead of the Christmas holidays as investors slowed down activity, dealers said Thursday, while a Central bank guidance peg for interbank transaction remained unchanged.
“The market is dull ahead of the Christmas season, and we expect the sentiment to continue in the next week as well if there is no bond auction,” dealers said.
So far the Central bank has not sent an auction notice.
A bond maturing on 15.05.2026 was quoted at 31.05/30 percent on Thursday, up from 31.00/20 percent at Friday’s close.
No T-bills were quoted, dealers said.
The Central bank’s guidance peg for interbank transactions was at 363.16 rupees against the US dollar.
Commercial banks offered dollars for telegraphic transfers at 371.66, data showed. Buying rate was at 361.08 rupees.
Banks are now issuing dollars for imports more freely than earlier. (Colombo/ Dec 22/2022)
