ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s budget for 2022 will be presented on November 12 and the vote will be on December 10, the state information office said.
The budget debate will continue till November 22 and committee stage debates will take place from November 23.
The budget vote will be on December 10.
The 2022 budget comes as Sri Lanka’s state finance had been hit by tax cuts, a Coronavirus crises and the hiring of unemployed graduates which has expanded an already bloated state service.
The appropriation bill details a total of 2,505 billion rupees to be spent by ministries and departments.
For 2022, the ministry of defence had been allocated 373.1 billion rupees, health 153.5 billion rupees and education 127.5 billion rupees.
The Ministry of Transport was allocated 31.2 billion rupees, with 26.2 billion rupees for railways as both capital and recurrent expenditure.
The ministry of Highways was allocated 250.2 billion rupees. (Colombo/Oct12/2021)
