Sri Lanka business chamber urges voter verdict to be honoured
EconomyNext – Sri Lanka’s main business chamber appealed for calm following a tightly contested presidential poll Thursday, saying the verdict of voters must be respected irrespective of political differences.
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce said it was pleased to note that the polling of the presidential election was concluded in a "relatively peaceful and a conducive manner".
"We appeal to the general public to remain calm and maintain peace during the post election period," it said in a statement.
"All should respect the verdict of the voter, irrespective of political differences and stand firm with the elected leader to forge ahead and transform Sri Lanka to a developed nation, meeting aspirations of all the people.
"We remain committed and ready to contribute to the progress and prosperity of the nation."
