Sri Lanka cancels repatriation flight from Qatar

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has cancelled a repatriation flight from Qatar and the foreign ministry said it will find accommodation for passengers who were to return to the island.

“In consultation with the Minister of Foreign Relations Dinesh Gunawardena, I have instructed Sri Lanka’s Acting Ambassador in Qatar, as an interim measure, to immediately find accommodation for those stranded, following the cancellation of the Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Qatar…” Foreign Secretary Ravinatha Ariyasinha said.

Sri Lanka has brought back foreign tourists from a number of countries as progress was made in fighting the epidemic.

There had been a spike in cases particularly from Kuwait. One Kuwait returnee died on May 25, taking the total deaths to 10.
