Sri Lanka CEB power utility to buy barge mounted IPP
ECONOMYNEXT – State-run Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will purchase a 60MegaWatt barge mounted power plant on which the power purchase contract had expired, Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.
The cabinet of minister had approved a proposal by power minister Champika Ranawaka for CEB to by the plant built by Colombo Power (Pvt) Ltd for 571 million yen (641 million rupees).
The power purchase agreement with the company had expired on June 30, 2015.
The plan had been run for 110,000 hours but it had been well-maintained and could be operated up to around 250,000 hours or more.
The firm began operations in the year 2000. It is a joint venture between Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding and Kawasho Corporation.
