Sri Lanka central bank FIU, Interpol to fight money laundering

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Financial Intelligence Unit has entered into an agreement with Interpol, the international police organisation that fights international crime, to get information that helps combat money laundering and terrorist financing.

The central bank said in a statement its FIU had struck a deal with Interpol’s National Central Bureau for Sri Lanka giving direct access to the Interpol’s information system.

“Money laundering and terrorist financing are internationally connected financial crimes which could threaten the stability of domestic as well as global economic and financial systems,” it said.

“The agreement would enable gather intelligence and information which is vital for prevention, detection and prosecution of such offences.”
