Sri Lanka Central Bank Governor resigns to give ‘free hand to new president’
COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – Sri Lanka’s Central Bank Governor Nivard Cabraal resigned Friday after a new president was elected.
"I wanted to give a free hand to the new President," he told EconomyNext. "Nobody told me to resign."
President Rajapaksa was defeated in results declared today with joint opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena gaining 51.2 percent of the vote.
