Sri Lanka Commerce Ministry picks Anushka Wijesinha as advisor
COLOMBO, Nov 18, 2014 (EconomyNext) – Sri Lanka’s Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen has appointed Anushka Wijesinha, a young economist working for a think-tank, as an advisor on industrial development and youth entrepreneurship..
Wijesinha was Research Economist & Acting Head of the Industry, Competitiveness and Regulatory Policy Unit of the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS).
He has an MA in Economics and Development from Leeds Business School, UK and is an economics graduate of University College London.
Wijesinha was helped the ministry by acting as the Lead Author of its new industrial development framework and Five Year Action Plan (2011-2015) with a seven-member committee of experts.
He was also a Research Officer of the Presidential Commission on Taxation in 2009, co-writing its final report, and was the Assistant Director of Economic Affairs of the Government Peace Secretariat.
As part of his policy level engagements, Wijesinha was also active in committees on ‘Economic and Fiscal Policy and Planning’, ‘FDI and Ease of Doing Business’ and ‘Young Leaders’ of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
