Sri Lanka court to hear Rajapaksa quo warranto case on Jan 16
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Court of Appeal will hear a case where Mahinda Rajapaksa has been asked to justify how he was in office as Prime Minister on January 16, lawyers said.
The court of appeal has already suspended Rajapaksa from holding office as Prime Minister pending the final decision of the so-called ‘quo warranto’ case.
Rajapaksa has also appealed the interim order where he was barred from acting in office, in Supreme Court.
In the morning, some lawyers for the petitioners were at the Court of Appeal when the case was first mentioned.
The quo warranto case will now be heard on 16, 17 and 18 of January next year.
