Sri Lanka COVID-19 situation report: 23 new patients by this morning

ECONOMYNEXT – A total of 23 new COVID-19 patients were reported in the island as at 6 a.m. this morning, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPOC) said.

Of the 23 patients, 17 were reported among detainees at the Senapura Rehabilitation Centre (East Kandakadu), five among the returnees from Qatar and one returnee from Saudi Arabia.

With the new patients reported, the total number of patients reported from the Kandakadu cluster has increased to 597 with 482 being detainees, while 65 staff members, five invited staff members, one close contact of the patient-reported from Welikada prison and 44 other close contacts of the cluster also being identified.

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country have thus increased to 2,805, and with 15 new recoveries as at 6 a.m. today the total recoveries have increased to 2,121.

The NOCPOC said that 10 people arrived this morning aboard a special flight from Doha, and all of whom were directed to the quarantine centres controlled by the tri-forces.

A total of 3,409 people are currently under quarantine in 38 quarantine centres island wide. (Colombo/July28/2020
