Sri Lanka COVID-19 task force rules out possible lockdown in Matara
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 task force has decided to not lockdown the Matara area visited by a COVID-19 infected Russian airline crew member.
A local lockdown in Matara was strongly considered earlier today as reports emerged of the Russian patient and a fellow crew member having visited two prominent supermarkets in the area. They were accommodated with 13 colleagues at theAmaloh boutique resort in Polhena, a popular tourist destination minutes away from the Matara town.
However, a senior COVID-19 task force official told EconomyNext a short while ago that they have ruled out a possible lockdown on the grounds of “high immunity”.
Matara is a major city in southern Sri Lanka and is a highly populated area. (Colombo/Sep24/2020)
