Sri Lanka COVID-19 update: Five new patients reported by this morning

ECONOMYNEXT – Five new COVID-19 patients were reported in Sri Lanka as at 6am today, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPOC) said.

One of the patients is a close contact of a staff member at the Kandakadu Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre.

With the new cases, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka has increased to 2,828 with 300 active cases and 50 currently under observation in hospitals.

With three new recoveries as at 6 am this morning, total recoveries have increased to 2,517.

The number of COVID-19 patients reported from the Kandakadu cluster has increased to 602, with 482 detainees, 66 staff members, five invited staff members, 48 close contacts and one close contact of the Welikada prison patient found positive for the virus.

Further, 68 Sri Lankans are expected to return during the day aboard special flights: 20 from Doha, 30 from Chennai, India, one from Abu Dhabi and 17 from Georgia are expected to return today.

NOCPOC said that all the returnees will be directed to quarantine centres controlled by the tri-forces upon their arrivals.

A total of 2,299 are currently undergoing the quarantine process in 35 quarantine centres controlled by the tri-forces. (Colombo/Aug4/2020)
