Sri Lanka discusses loans with European Investment Bank for green projects

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lankan delegates to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg have discussed loan facilities for green projects with the European Investment Bank (EIB), the foreign ministry said.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels had organised a virtual meeting between EIB officials and the Sri Lankan delegates last Wednesday (07).

“EIB officials while explaining the funding modalities under the Green Concept programme of the Bank, and indicated their readiness to consider project proposals from Sri Lanka for possible funding by EIB investment loans,” the foreign ministry said.

“The EIB also offered to provide technical expertise and assistance to Sri Lanka in the sphere of investment on green bonds,” it added.

A foreign ministry statement said the meeting had focused on projects that are in the pipeline for EIB funding and lending in green projects and sustainable development in ocean initiatives, investment on green bonds, SME development and more.

The meeting was joined by Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union Grace Asirwatham, EIB officials, Sri Lanka Central Bank officials, Chairman Board of Investment (BOI) Sanjaya Mohottala, and officials from the foreign ministry. (Colombo/Jul12/2021)
