Sri Lanka ex-PM’s UNP polls less than 5-pct in declared Colombo seats

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s United National Party led by ex-Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has polled less than 5 percent in declared polling divisions of its traditional stronghold in Colombo in the 2020 general elections.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya of Sajith Premadasa broke away from the UNP after Wickremesinghe refused to change is constitution and reform the leadership.

The UNP polled 4.23 percent in Colombo North, while the Samagi Jana Balawegaya of Sajith Premadasa won taking 64 percent.

In Colombo Central the SJB polled 73 percent to UNP 3.38 percent.

In Colombo West the UNP polled 4.48 percent to SJB’s 64 percent.

In Kotte the UNP polled 3.11 percent while the SJB got 29.7percent. The polling division was won by the Sri Lanka Podujana Party with 58 percent of the vote. (Colombo/Aug06/2020)

  1. Ranil Wickramasinghe is a self serving politician who does not have the prosperity or advancement of srilanka. He has ruined the UNP and everything that is within his influence. As per the religion he professes to believe he will reap what he has sowed.
